Apple Releases Urgent Security Patch For Older IPhones & IPads
On 13th May 2024, Apple released an urgent security update for the older iOS and iPadOS. This update covers iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5th generation, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, and iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st generation.

On 13th May 2024, Apple released an urgent security update for the older iOS and iPadOS. This update covers iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5th generation, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, and iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st generation.
It's worth noting and commendable that Apple is still releasing security updates for the devices which were released back in year 2017.
Tracked as CVE-2024-23296 is a memory corruption flaw in the RTKit. "An attacker with arbitrary kernel read and write capability may be able to bypass kernel memory protections" reads the advisory by the tech giant. Apple is also aware that this issue may have been exploited.
Apple fixed this flaw by implementing improved validation and this fix was released in iOS 16.7.8 and iPadOS 16.7.8.
Apple also fixed an issue wherein an App app may be able to access user-sensitive data, tracked as CVE-2024-27789 is a logic issue. This was also fixed in iOS 16.7.8 and iPadOS 16.7.8.
It is highly recommended to update these devices to the latest version.
